Scorpion flies belong to the insect order Mecoptera. These primitive insects have changed little from amber specimens some 250 million years old, and all the modern two winged flies, butterflies and moths are suggested to have evolved from them. Scorpion flies are predatory, but tend to feed on dead or wounded insects.
